2020 One Fine Morning Dolcetto
The 2020 One Fine Morning was once again was made from the Dolcetto. What really sets the One Fine Morning apart is that it is produced via carbonic maceration. Carbonic maceration starts with whole grape clusters in an oxygen-free environment (for me four stainless steel barrels) and typically produces a light, fruity wine. The grapes for the One Fine Morning spent about three weeks in these stainless steel barrels before they were pressed and allowed to finish fermentation off of their skins. The wines then rested in very well-seasoned oak barrels before being bottled 6 months later.
Bright and juicy fruit forward, the nose bursts with strawberry, raspberry, cranberry cocktail, and rosemary. Light-bodied, with fine tannins and fresh acidity — it’s quite “smashable.” And goes great at Thanksgiving. Serve with a light chill.
2018 Mossy Block Zinfandel
The grapes for 2018 Mossy Block Zinfandel come from the Battaglini vineyard (planted in 1885) in the Piner-Olivet region of the Russian River Valley. The grapes were hand-harvested at the peak of ripeness and fermented in an open-top fermenter allowing for punchdowns by hand and gentle pumpovers. After more than three weeks in tank, the wine was pressed to neutral French oak barrels and aged for 19 months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.
The Mossy Block displays exotic aromas of apricot, mint, and black cherries. Medium bodied with lingering tannins accentuating notes of grilled meat, pomegranate, dark fruit, and anise. Delicious!!
2018 Maiden Effort Red Blend
The old girl returns! Just like the first wine we released three years ago, the 2018 Maiden Effort is field blend of Carignane and Petite Sirah from the historic Testa Vineyard in Mendocino County planted in 1912. The grapes were destemmed but 100% whole berry fermented in an open-top fermenter. The wine was aged for 19 months in French oak, 25% new.
Earthy aromas of eucalyptus, tobacco, and black licorice are framed by hints of chocolate, blackberry, and baking spices. Rustic and medium bodied with firm tannins and refreshing acidity. Tasty now but will only improve with age.
2019 Infinite Regress Petite Sirah
100% Petite Sirah from a vineyard planted in 1885 in the Russian River Valley (the same vineyard the Mossy Block Zinfandel comes from), the Infinite Regress is a bold wine with flavors and aromas of cinnamon, black licorice, plums, blackberries, and blueberry pie. Substantial but smooth tannins and firm acidity frame the fruit forward flavors and provide a lush drinking experience.
2019 Blanc de L'Année Muscadelle
The 2019 Blanc de L'Annee is 100% Muscadelle (an obscure white rarely seen in the U.S.) from vines planted in 1920 in Sonoma Valley. The wine was fermented in stainless steel and aged for 9 months in stainless steel barrels and 8 months in well-seasoned French oak.
Aromas of lemon, green apple, honeysuckle, and almond carry over onto the palate and are joined by hints of grapefruit and nutmeg. Light to medium bodied, the wine finishes crisply but still lingers softly on the palate.
