2021 Blanc de L'Année Muscadelle
The 2021 Blanc de L'Annee is 100% Muscadelle (an obscure white variety rarely seen in the U.S.) from vines planted in 1920 in Sonoma Valley. The wine was fermented in stainless steel and aged for nine months in well-seasoned French oak. It is crisp and refreshing and pairs with just about anything.
Wine Enthusiast: "well-balanced wine made from old vines of the Muscadelle variety offers a combo of citrus and stone fruits backed by moderate acidity. An appetizing tanginess keeps it lively as you sip." Rated "Best Buy".
2023 Chaise Longue Chardonnay
The 2023 Chaise Longue is our version of a "natural wine." It is 100% Chardonnay from an organic vineyard on the Sonoma Coast. Fermentation occurred spontaneously with indigenous yeast in a single once-used barrel. The only addition to the wine was a minimal amount of sulfur (to prevent oxidation and extend ageabilty) before we bottled it unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Notes: Notes of apricot, pineapple, and lemon curd are balanced by moderate acidity and oak-spice notes of cinnamon and cardamom. The silky texture finishes bright and clean.
2023 The Fiddler Nero D'Avola
Our The Fiddler is made from the Nero D'Avola grape (indigenous to Sicily) and produced via carbonic maceration. Carbonic maceration starts with whole grape clusters in an oxygen-free environment (for me, four stainless steel barrels) and typically produces a light, fruity wine. The grapes for The Fiddler spent about three weeks in those stainless steel barrels before they were pressed and allowed to finish fermentation off of their skins like a white wine. The wines then rested in very well-seasoned French oak barrels before being bottled 7 months later.
Tasting Notes: Vibrant purple in color, the Fiddler opens with intense fruit notes of cranberry, strawberry, and black cherry softly underscored by hints of clove and coffee. The dry and tangy finish leaves you wanting another sip.
2019 Infinite Regress Petite Sirah
100% Petite Sirah from a vineyard planted in 1885 in the Russian River Valley (the same vineyard the Mossy Block Zinfandel comes from), the Infinite Regress is a bold wine with flavors and aromas of cinnamon, black licorice, plums, blackberries, and blueberry pie. Substantial but smooth tannins and firm acidity frame the fruit forward flavors and provide a lush drinking experience.
2018 Mossy Block Zinfandel
The grapes for 2018 Mossy Block Zinfandel come from the Battaglini vineyard (planted in 1885) in the Piner-Olivet region of the Russian River Valley. The grapes were hand-harvested at the peak of ripeness and fermented in an open-top fermenter allowing for punchdowns by hand and gentle pumpovers. After more than three weeks in tank, the wine was pressed to neutral French oak barrels and aged for 19 months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.
The Mossy Block displays exotic aromas of apricot, mint, and black cherries. Medium bodied with lingering tannins accentuating notes of grilled meat, pomegranate, dark fruit, and anise. Delicious!!
2018 Maiden Effort Red Blend
The old girl returns! Just like the first wine we released three years ago, the 2018 Maiden Effort is field blend of Carignane and Petite Sirah from the historic Testa Vineyard in Mendocino County planted in 1912. The grapes were destemmed but 100% whole berry fermented in an open-top fermenter. The wine was aged for 19 months in French oak, 25% new.
Earthy aromas of eucalyptus, tobacco, and black licorice are framed by hints of chocolate, blackberry, and baking spices. Rustic and medium bodied with firm tannins and refreshing acidity. Tasty now but will only improve with age.
